Father’s Day gives as an opportunity to acknowledge our dads. It’s just around the corner, so to start this holiday ball rolling, I’d like you to share a great story about your dad. Won’t it be fun to write and read about each other’s fathers? Okay, I’m starting. My dad was the sole provider for a family of five and was always looking for extra cash to augment his Bell Telephone job, to support his growing young family, especially around the holidays. Sometimes he sold toys, or newspapers or worked at a liquor store. But, I remember one holiday season, he and bunch of guys went to the top of the needle of the Capitol Records Building, in Hollywood, to string lights making a huge green Christmas Tree. The job was a bit risky, but he was used to climbing telephone poles, loved the challenge, and, what the heck, made some good cash! Thank you dad, for your love of life and what you gave to others. I think I got a Patty Play Pal that year. And, just think of all the joy people had when they went around the corner on the 101 going to Hollywood and saw those lights for the first time in the 1950s!! Wow!
